The two maps below serve different purposes for a landscape approach.  Figure one displays all the vineyards in the Russian River Valley (RRV) American Viticultural Area (AVA).  Below it, figure two shows non-vineyard area on parcels having a vineyard.

Figure 1.  What is vineyard density and age? 

Figure 2.  Is this area range, grassland, hardwood, or riparian?  

      In the RRV AVA, the other area is sure to be a perennial ecosystem.  Each parcel houses more than one type of perennial ecosystem.  Depending on the management of each area; we can hypothesize about rates of carbon (C) sequestration.
